Classroom Update - 04.24.2015

Good Afternoon Families!

The students have been hard at work on their placement tests.  They put forth their best effort and focused hard during these past few weeks.  Thank you for your support at home in helping our children eat healthy and get enough sleep.

We have finished most placement tests, with just the literacy comprehension test to remain.  The test will be administered next Thursday, April 30th.

Here are the targets we are currently / planning on working to master over the next couple of weeks:

Literacy
* We are working on new targets. The first will be to determine themes of story, drama, or a poem using details from the text.

Writing
* We finished Cycle 5 and will be switching our writing to informative texts. The students are going to be providing support from the text, as well as, writing effective introductions and conclusions. Look forward to incorporating media into their next piece!

Math
* With Unit 5 and the performance task done, we are done with placement tests for math.  We are moving on to our last unit on geometry- Unit 6. Targets will cover coordinate planes, polygon classification, and line plot data.

Information to help your child :  Unit 6 Math Family Letter is attached as a link because it has online resource links.

Social Studies
* We are continuing to work on describing how indentured servitude affected the growth of the colonies.  This will lead into our discussion about slavery and how it affected the growth of the colonies. The kids will have a neat ipad video to share! We will do a simulation in class for some hands on learning.

Science
* We are currently working on light and sound.
