Classroom Update - 12.19.2014

Happy Holidays to all. May your New Year be filled with PEACE, JOY, and LOVE!

Good Afternoon Families!

Below are the targets we will be working on into the second grading period:

Literacy
**We will continue to work on using context clues to find the meaning of unfamiliar words.

Writing
**We will continue to  practice opinion/argumentative writing.  Students will be asked to pick a stance and defend their argument using evidence from the text, as well as their own ideas.
Spelling: We will begin a new spelling unit in January. Our grade was chosen to try a new spelling curriculum, that we are all excited about. The district will be sending a letter home to you that will explain in more detail.

Math
**We will begin Unit 4, which covers multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers and applying those concepts when presented with real world word problems.

Science
**We completed our cell unit and will be now exploring the Human Body Unit , where we focus on the bodys systems.

Social Studies
**We will start our discussion on economy, with a focus on goods vs. services, supply and demand, and trade.  Please be on the lookout for information regarding our 5th grade trade fair! We will send out trade fair information the first week we return. Students should be starting to think about what kind of product they will make for the trade fair

Friendly Reminders
**Please remember to send your child with a healthy snack.  Nothing feeds the brain like a healthy snack!  Also, because allergies, please make sure your child's snack complies with our district's safe snack list.

**Please continue to have your child practice their multiplication facts up to 12.

**Please remember to return all tests and CFA's that are attached to Friday Updates, as I keep those in their binders to review at conference time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Have a wonderful time with your family this break!
