5th Grade Expectations

Homework

  • Homework takes about an hour every night Monday thru Thursday.  Typically, students will not receive homework over the weekend unless there is a project or test
  • If, at some point, your child is struggling with a concept or an assignment, please have them move on to a different problem.  However, I do ask for a note to accompany any unfinished work.
  • When an assignment is finished, I have asked our students to cross out their work in their assignment notebook.  It helps to keep them and their work organized.
  • When homework is finished, please encourage your children to put materials in their backpacks right away.  The morning are always a rush and that's the time when students mostly forget to pack their homework.
  • Homework is usually due the following day.  If homework is not completed or turned in, your child will receive a late slip.  If they receive 3 late slips during the grading period, your child will be asked to stay in during their recess or after school on a designated day to complete assigned homework.  Their late slip slates are wiped clean at the beginning of every grading period.
  • If they forget to bring in an assignment or accordion folder, I do ask that you please refrain from dropping off their work in the office.  We are continuing to build responsibility by having our students be accountable for their homework.

Typing
  • Your child will be required to type approximately one hour per week at home.  He/she will write how many minutes typed in their reading / typing log.
