Classroom Update - 05.08.2015

Happy Friday Parents!

Hopefully April showers will bring May flowers! We have a very exciting Spring coming up with many fun and interesting activities for 5th Grade!

Here are the targets we are currently / planning on working to master over the next couple of weeks:

Literacy
* We will continue to work with poetry as we analyze poems and understand the themes.  We are also writing poems of our own to practice using figurative language. We have all enjoyed using song lyrics to look into figurative language and themes used in popular music.

Writing
* We are working on writing informative pieces. We are also working describing information verbally by completing short films and adding those to our informative Google Presentations.

Math
* We are moving on to our last unit on geometry - Unit 6.  Targets will cover coordinate planes, polygon classification, and line plot data. To practice these targets we have worked on a comic project that used scale drawing.

Information to help your child :  Unit 6 Math Family Letter is attached as a link because it has online resource links.

Social Studies
* We are working on describing how indentured servitude affected the growth of the colonies.  This will lead into our discussion about slavery and how it affected the growth of the colonies. The kids will have a neat culminating iPad video to share! The students were also involved in an indentured servitude simulation which provided some hands on learning.

Science
* We are currently working on light and sound.
