Classroom Update - 9.12.2014

Happy Friday Families!

We've settled into our classroom routines and are currently wrapping up targets in literacy and math.  Needless to say, our students have been hard at work!

Here are the targets we are currently / planning on working to master over the next couple of weeks:

Literacy
* Summarize a text (story, poem, or drama).

Writing
* Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters.
* Organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally.

Math
* Find whole-number quotients with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division.  Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

Social Studies
* Locate, on a map, the major river systems of the world.
* Describe the location of countries relative to the locations of other countries.

Science
* Weather

Upcoming Events
** Math Night (for parents of students in Grades 4 and 5)
     - Monday, September 15th
     - Mat Room @ Ivy Hall Elementary School

Friendly Reminders
** Please remember to send your child with a healthy snack.  Nothing feeds the brain like a healthy snack!  Also, because allergies, please make sure your child's snack complies with our district's safe snack list.

** Please continue to have your child practice their multiplication facts up to 12.

An email with a link to our classroom Blogger page will be pushed out every two weeks when our Blogger page is updated.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Thank you and have a fantastic weekend!
